Description
Traditionally chestnuts are roasted over hot coals in a special chestnut roasting pan. It has holes in the base to let the nuts toast to perfection.
This blue steel pan is imported from France and is especially suited to roasting chestnuts over hot coals but will work equally well over a gas flame or barbeque. Simply make a small cut in each fresh chestnut (to allow any steam to release during cooking) and pop in the pan. Shake over the flames until they become toasted and slightly charred. Don’t worry about a few burnt bits – they add to the flavour. Enjoy the wonderful aroma as they roast. Once done tip the cooked nuts into a shallow basket lined with a tea towel and cover. This step is actually quite important as it allows the nuts to rest and they will be easier to peel. Open the towel and enjoy….
