Haroset

Haroset is a Passover sweet whose pasty texture represents the mortar used by Jewish slaves in Egypt.

Ingredients

  • 300 g peeled chestnuts
  • 250 g peeled apples
  • 100 g blanched almonds
  • 100 g pitted dates
  • 100 g pitted dried prunes
  • 100 g raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • The juice of 2 oranges

Method

1. Simmer the chestnuts in lightly salted water until tender.

2. Drain them, dry them, and run them through a meat grinder with the other dried fruit. Grate the apples into the mixture, then stir in the other ingredients and mix thoroughly.
