Fresh chestnuts direct from the farm to you. Our unique Marrone di Chiusa Pesio chestnuts are sweet and easy to peel and we believe, the best roasting chestnuts around. We found this variety during a trip to Italy in 2002 when we visited Cuneo for a chestnut festival. The town of Chiusa di Pesio is nearby and we were taken there by a local chestnut nurseryman who told us this was the best variety in Italy! The mother tree is huge and we have since been back a number of times.
Luckily another chestnut grower had previously been to Cuneo and discovered the tree before us. He imported some grafting wood through quarantine and we have been fortunate to be given some. It is not widely grown in Australia so it is basically unique to us. We’re sure you will love it.
Fresh chestnuts are graded by the size hole they fall through. The grader is a long cylinder with holes that increase in size. As the chestnuts travel along inside the rotating cylinder they fall out into bins. The smallest chestnuts fall out first and then the next largest ones and so on.
